Ghost Pumpkin Party Update and Free Printable

Over the Summer my little boy (5 during Summer, just turned 6) planted and cared for pumpkins, a whole plethora of pumpkins! He had amazing results, and decided to throw his first annual “Pumpkin Picking Party”. Since most of his harvest was white and blush pumpkins, we went with a “ghost pumpkin” theme for the invitations. You can find those invitation here at our Etsy shop. I will also post a photo of the layout for his “evite” below.

We would love to share the artwork with you. It is a hand drawn and painted Ghost Pumpkin set, a trio of 5 by 7s to print and frame or use as notecards. Also included are two 3.5 by 5 notecards (we do not want to waste cardstock). You can get those here:

Ghost Pumpkin Printable Set

We hope you print them out and would love it if you send us photos of them “in use”!

The First Annual pumpkin party was a HUGE hit. I need to remember to take more photos, and next event ( a friendsgiving planned next month) I will! The friends each picked two pumpkins, then I read “What Was I Scared of” by Dr Seuss, a funny book that reminds us that the things we are afraid of might be just as afraid of us as we are of them! The friends each made a mask, we had kittens, bats and sugar-skulls and we took photos in-front of a spooky backdrop. We kept the treats simple ~ Krispy treats with eyeball candies, goldfish crackers, cookies and apple juice. It was a fun gathering, and we are already making plans for next year.

Have you had a Halloween or Fall get-together yet? Are you planning one? What games and books are your favorites for fall?

If you see an invitation PDF in our shop, but need it as an evite, we can make that change for you! This is the text (minus personal information) we sent out for Melvin’s first annual Pumpkin Picking Party!

Meet Cookie...and other news

newcookie.jpg

Hello There! I am so glad you stopped by the blog today.

Where do we start with the news, well here is something ~ our niece was born last month! She is beautiful and healthy and we love her. “Your niece you say? That is wonderful but who ARE you?”. Okay, that is a good question. Some of you know us as Tricia and Barbara, and you know we are sisters, well technically we are sisters-in-law (sister-in-laws?), we married brothers. I married the eldest brother, so obviously if we were a royal family that would mean he is next in line for the throne, not that this matters…this is kind of a joke thrown in to see if any family is reading, it goes way back, such a long, long way back . Along with our husbands, Mike the eldest and Jared who is 4th in line, there are 3 other brothers and 3 sisters, for a total of 8 siblings on that branch of the tree! I am not going to tell you all of their names, as that is really getting off topic, which is that our niece was born! In case you are wondering I do not have a favorite niece, or nephew however if I did it would probably be

Cookie.

cookie1.jpg

Cookie is Barbara’s chi-pit mix rescue. Cookie is just a baby.

I admit it, that paragraph went all over the place, but it did tell you a little more about us. Which is great, but you want to know more about Cookie…I assume, am I right? If so visit Cookie’s instagram page right here (click! click! hurry up and click!!)

You will find a lovely photo documentary of Cookie’s many adventures.

At the top of this post you will see a cartoon drawing of Cookie. Here at the bottom you will see a free offer. Would you like a cute little digital cartoon drawing of your pet? We are going to give away 5 free drawings, here are the conditions (sorry we were not going to have any conditions, but Cookie insisted). 1-follow Cookie on Instagram 2-Follow Shy Socialites on Instagram 3-Comment here 4 - Let us know if it is okay to use your cartoon pet as a sample in our shop when we add the drawings to our “products” later this year.

To make the Insta-liking easy the names are clickable :) We will choose the 5 winners in 2 weeks.

Thank you so much for stopping by! Talk to you soon.

Kindly,

Tricia

Bookish Princess Paper Doll!

two2.jpg

I am so excited to share our newest paper-doll! In fact, I have been writing and rewriting this post hoping to get it just right. I have been trying to piece it all together perfectly so I sound completely articulate and not overly enthusiastic…but that is not me, so that was not working.

I MADE A PAPER-DOLL FOR ONE MY FAVORITE BLOGGERS! I was so nervous asking her if it would be okay. I actually did not open her reply for a bit out of fear she would not be interested. Of course she was happy to see herself as a doll, but that is not the best part! Together we fashioned this doll as a gift for you! You can download the PDF file

Here for the Emma Doll with the Stand

Here for the Emma Doll without the stand.

Oh, I need to tell you about Emma! She is the Bookish Princess (click on her name, see her blog) I actually discovered her while looking for fun Disney videos to watch with my little one, Melvin. I cannot even remember now which video of hers I watched first, when I clicked on her channel I noticed she also discussed books, stationery and fashion. I think at that point I actually texted my mom and told her I found a vlogger who likes all the same things I do, this is important (I will say why a little further down). Click here and you will be magically transported to her YouTube channel.

Click here and you can see a video with one of the dresses she and paper-doll Emma share.

one1.jpg

I took a few photos of the doll in play (my son wanted her before I was able to get many photos, so she is a hit with 5 year-olds!). If you love the Emma Doll yet are thinking “I don’t really play with paper dolls” here are some other uses- print them on magnet-paper and make refrigerator magnets, cut the tabs off the dresses and uses them as bookmarks (you could also laminate them), print them out on standard paper and write on the back like stationery, frame them or use them as a a notebook cover.

We printed Emma on lightweight cardstock, and she kind of flops over, so a thicker cardstock would be better for actual play. Melvin loves all of her little accessories so much! He was excited to dress her in the dole-whip dress adding her camera, Mickey ice cream sandwich and sunglasses.

Now, why is it important that I told me mom about Emma? The past couple of years have not been easy for our family. We have been through a lot of loss. Some days it feels like we are walking through mud. My mom was becoming concerned because she saw me losing interest in many things. I closed my personal blog, I was not writing anymore at all, I wasn’t drawing or reading as much…so finding Emma’s YouTube channel helped remind me of all the things I think are fun! It is amazing how you can do something and never know whose life you may touch, and how much you are helping them by just being yourself.

I want to say Thank You to Emma for being a fun and cheerful ray of sunshine in the world, my husband thanks you, my mom thanks you, my sister Barbara (who owns this shop with me) thanks you, and my 5-year old son who will now have more paper toys to play with thanks you, too!

Thank you to everyone who took the time to visit this blog and read this post. Leave a comment and let me know what kind of paper toys or dolls you would like to see next! I am thinking a paper-doll of Emma (and her brother, too perhaps) in their Halloween costumes! Do yourself a favor and look for the costume videos on Emma’s channel!

Tricia
